Alexander Hamlin – 2025 Ralph Grieco Scholarship

Alex is from Macon, GA and plans to study Biomedical Engineering at Mercer University. He started playing tennis after his parents signed him up for the summer camp at John Drew Smith Tennis Center at the age of six. After taking a break and playing other sports, he came back to tennis just before COVID (2020). Tennis was the outlet he needed to get through the pandemic. It enabled him to get out of the house and become part of the tennis community in Macon. Alex has chosen to remain in the tennis community in Middle Georgia and would like to help others realize the potential tennis has to help them through tough times.

Favorite Tennis Memory: Junior year, my High School Tennis Team was in the sweet sixteen – tied 2 to 2. Everyone was watching – I smashed the ball over the next to win the match sending our team to the elite eight. This was also the final win I had with my doubles partner since freshman year – Carter Lanford.

Accomplishments off the court: Winning the Jerry Baskin Scholar Athlete of the Year is something that I will cherish forever. To be recognized for my work in school and my accomplishments on the court because someone else saw my effort is very special to me.

Favorite tennis player: Roger Federer – I use a one-handed backhand that I learned from watching him.

Favorite Sports Team: Atlanta Braves

Favorite quote: “Let others change you mind but not your heart.”
