Ashley Cooke – 2025 Richard Bowers Scholarship

Ashley is from Jonesboro, GA and plans to study Sports Management and play on the tennis team at Livingstone College in Salisbury, NC. She started playing tennis at the age of 3. Her dad, who has also been her coach, is the reason she fell in love with the sport. He taught her the skills and strategies of the game and always went the extra mile to make sure she had every opportunity to improve her game. Today she is not only a player, but also a certified official and helps run several programs under their NJTL – South Clayton Community Tennis Association.

Favorite Tennis Memory: Playing Tennis in Jamaica for my first international tournament. I was anxious playing in a new environment but it’s an experience I will never forget.

Accomplishments – on and off the court: I was captain of both the High School Tennis and Cross-country teams, won MVP in tennis, and named Scholar Athlete of the Year in Clayton County. I maintained a 4.2 GPA while completing AP and dual enrollment courses.

Favorite tennis player: Nick Kyrgios – his creativity and passion for the game make him one of the most exciting players to watch.

Favorite sports team: Big fan of the Atlanta Hawks. I love Trae Young, he’s a very exciting player.

Favorite Quote: “Good, better, best. Never let it rest. Until your good is better and your better is best.”
