Publix Super Markets Charities joined the Georgia Tennis Foundation as its first Partner in Tennis in 2003! This partnership gave birth to YMCA Tennis Georgia. As founding sponsor of YMCA Tennis Georgia, Publix Super Markets Charities has been instrumental in the rapid growth of this program. The Georgia Tennis Foundation credits tennis visionary Brenda Reid of Publix Super Markets Charities for YMCA Tennis Georgia’s grand success. In just eight years, YMCA Tennis Georgia has grown from a summer program serving 1 YMCA to a year-round program serving 49 YMCAs and introducing over 54,000 children to the sport of tennis.
The Georgia Tennis Foundation is pleased to welcome The ALTA Foundation, Inc. as one of our new partners in tennis. The ALTA Foundation, Inc., has been in existence since 1986. It was created by ALTA to promote health, character, sportsmanship, and responsible citizenship by using the game of tennis to support, not only amateur athletes, but programs for the disadvantaged, the physically and mentally challenged, and to provide inner-city youth new opportunities for the future. Through its various programs, the Foundation touches thousands of adults and juniors in the Atlanta area as well as nationally.
The Georgia Tennis Foundation is grateful for the continued support of the Atlanta Falcons Youth Foundation. The AFYF takes the issue of childhood obesity head on by investing in nonprofit organizations that are moving school-age kids to spend more time every day in organized physical activity. YMCA Tennis Georgia has expanded to all the YMCAs inthe Atlanta Falcon Fitness zones, thanks to the generosity of the Atlanta Falcons Youth Foundation and PGA Tour SuperStore. In June 2014, the Atlanta Circle Cup was held at the Washington Park Tennis Center, bringing together over 100 YMCA Tennis Georgia campers and the Washington Park neighborhood children for a day of tennis instruction by the best tennis coaches in Georgia. This event serves to excite kids about the sport of tennis and highlight the history of tennis in Washington Park. The Georgia Tennis Foundation especially appreciates the support of the Atlanta Falcons Youth Foundation Vice President, John Bare, whose vision gave birth to the Atlanta Circle Cup.
